This volume consists of several monographs: "Curso de lengua mixe," a short, elementary text for teaching Mixe to Spanish speakers complete with exercises, texts, lexical comments (38 pages). "Las lenguas habladas por los indigenos de la Republica Mexicana," a lengthy exposition (127 pages) on Mexican languages emphasizing the relationship of languages of Lower California to the Klamath; also Mixe, Zoque, Chontal, and Chocho, the last at length, including vocabulary and grammar. Incomplete. [This was prepared for, but not delivered at, the International Congress of Americanists, 11th session, 1895.] And, an address in English on the Indian tribes of the state of Oaxaca and their languages (51 pages).

The Daythal L. Kendall papers consist of a wide variety of published and unpublished work on especially Takelma, Kalapuyan languages, and Lencan languages. A linguist and computer scientist, Kendall devoted much time to synchronic and diachronic linguistics of Takelma and the Penutian stock, including much research on Takelma poetic forms, Kalapuyan morphology and gathering a large unpublished lexicon for Lencan languages. He also produced pedagogical materials for learning Canadian Aboriginal syllabics, and worked twice for the American Philosophical Society to develop their understanding of their Native American collections. In the papers are correspondence, extensive research and manuscripts on the above, collected materials from others including many handouts from conferences (particularly the Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas), lexical slips, and photographs of Native Oregonians and their land.

The Mary Rosamond Haas papers are extensive, including correspondence, research notes, field notes, texts, lexical slip files, audio recordings, photographs, reprints and more, covering more than 100 languages of North America and Southeast Asia. Of particular value are notes and audio recordings from fieldwork from the 1930s on Ditidaht, Tunica, Natchez and Muscogee, work toward pedagogical materials for Thai, and groundbreaking comparative studies of several language families of North America.
